Knitting Wizard

Am I really a knitting wizard? I'm starting to think that I am one, actually (please, please ask me something arcane), and I don't just play one at Knit Happens. Next appearance: Saturday, 11/27 from 1-3 p.m.

Politics

This is going to be one of the few political posts that I ever make.

Packers 20 28 Redskins 14 (Let's get the appropriate amount of bleeding in here.)

Congratulations, Senator Kerry

Secret Pal and various things

Okay, so the new laptop is really cutting into the knitting time. Why? Because I truly am a techie at heart. It honestly is my first love. But I am occasionally unfaithful, especially when I have the opportunity to pick this up:

Yes, that it ten skeins of Soft Seafoam Douceur et Soie. I'm still waiting for my order of Richesse et Soie. Not impatiently, however, because just looking at this stuff can make you calmer. It is not, however, better than Valium

And here's the long promised photo of the Kollage Merlot (the color, not the wine). The top picture is of the Kollage display at Knit Happens and the bottom one is the Kollage score resting on Phyl-Phyl's shoulder. Doesn't she look serene?

Finally, we have the SP3 presents. The top picture is a jigsaw puzzle, then we have a some Patons Allure, Peaches & Cream in Denim, and some Red Heart Baby Soft  in a seafoam. The other picture is the chair candle holder from my Secret Pal's first package, some scubbies, a nail scrubber (have you been looking at my hands), and some hand-made size 3 dpns. Plus a vanilla candle. What more could I ask for? Thanks so much for being my Secret Pal!!!

And, finally, I sincerely hope Cindy is having fun in Italy.

Non-Knitting Content:

If you're sick, STAY HOME! Someone at work didn't do that last week, probably because he felt he was just SO indispensable (he isn't) and now I'm sick. So what am I doing? I'm staying home. And if I'm not better by tomorrow, I'm calling the doctor.

Knitting Content:

Clapotis has been re-started and I'm about done w/ the increases. I'll take a pic later tonight.

And the Red Sock Knit-Along button is up. Isn't it beautiful? And the Sox are up 2-0. Of course, Pedro is pitching tomorrow, so I'll be rooting for the Cardinals. Yes, I despise Pedro.

It's official!

We're doing a RedSox KnitAlong. The yahoo group is here or you can send an e-mail here to subscribe directly.

The rules (there are only two and you'll like them):

1. The socks must be predominantly red.

2. You must enjoy knitting the socks.

Send me pics of finished socks if you like and I'll start another page (since I do have some webspace) for them. In fact, I'm going to try to get a page up soon, listing the participants.

And, in the meantime, I think I've decided to root for the Sox as long as Pedro isn't pitching.

Knit-A-Long

Okay, who's up for yet another Knit-Along?

This one would be VERY special because it would be a Red Socks knit-along. Any pattern of your choosing and any yarn of your choosing. The only hitch? They must be red.

Contact me here if you're interested.

And the official name would be the Red Sox Knit-Along.

Peek-chures!

Just so no one doubts my baseball allegiance (I'm from Chicago, in case you have to ask.):

Go Yankees

And here's a shot of the Buddy Erika colorway for my friend, Gracie's, poncho:

Gracie's Poncho

This uses Manos in Lava, Bing Cherry, Light Grey, and a Medium gray. I used the Yarn Harlot pattern on size 10.5 needles.

Wowsa!

Top of the 5th, BoSox leading Yanquis 8-1.

Do you think Johnny Damon's wife would mind if I offered to have his babies?

Blahs

I like this time of year because the weather is fairly cool and the leaves are pretty and all that.

I hate this time of year because I go to work in the dark and I have a disturbing tendency to go home in the dark. (It's now report-time, post-annual close.)

Blah

And my knitting is just as blah. I've gotten Gracie's poncho past it's light grey stripe but I'm just interested in working on it, so I've been setting goals. Maybe because it's my third poncho (repetition gets me every time). Maybe because it's just the change-of-season blahs.

Tiffany's poncho awaits Gracie's finishing.

I've sorta kinda started the Brittany jumper that Christina made for Charlotte in a bright green cotton (Paton's Grace, from Elann). Clapotis is just sitting there, looking at me, and I don't even have the inclination to do socks.

I just want to sit on the couch, watch baseball, and fall asleep. Right now, I don't even have any inclinations towards late night at Knit Happens, even though I haven't seen Kristine for two weeks.

Calgon, take me away!

Just too excited

I am so incredibly excited (just in case you missed my title). My boss called me into his office today and made me close the door and sit down.

Darned good thing he made me sit down.

He put me in for a not-inconsiderable bonus, which may be slightly more or less than he requested.

I decided to splurge and buy a new digital camera. Once I get it all figurd out, it's going to be boatloads of peek-chures!!! Pardon me now while I go play.

Poncho Mania

Poncho Mania has hit my workplace. There's one for Gracie, who I kind of promised a sweater to and since it's her birthday later this month, I'm going to take the hit for the yarn and all for her (she's also a single mother, so that just adds to my willingness).

Then there's Tiffany, who is going to pay for the yarn but I'm going to donate my labor because, well, I like Tiffany.

So now I'm wondering if I should just hang my poncho up and put a little price tag on it so I can let people know how much it will cost them to have me ply my trade. And if you don't know, I have four price levels.

1. I really, really like you so you only have to pay for my yarn cost (I have my sources and my stash).

2. I like you, so you only have to pay for the yarn at your your cost.

3. Hmmm... so, you want a poncho, you know your yarn cost fits #2 plus my labor which is three times the cost of the yarn of #2.

4. You cannot possibly be serious. It's #3 plus $50. Of course, if you're willing to pay that, then it's #3 plus $100.

I think I've only met one #4, so you gotta know that I really do not like you if I hit you with #4.

But I am excited about making ponchos for Tiffany and Gracie.

This and That

Things I really like

Teaching people how to knit socks. I had a blast this afternoon. I covered the table with books and dpns and balls of yarn to make people stretch and think outside the box.  I will definitely be teaching again next quarter.

My husband. He loved that I was teaching this afternoon. And the silly goose was worried that I was worried about him while I was out this afternoon (he was right).

My boss. He's getting a pair of socks out of me.

The irregulars at Knit Happens. A finer, nicer group of knitters you could never hope to meet. Not a mean bone in the bunch.

Thngs I don't like

Mean people. 'nuf said.

This Secret Pal thing. While the woman who received me is absolutely wonderful (love love love the baby alpaca), I received someone who doesn't know when to shut her mouth. I can tell you right now that there will be no SP4, 5, 6, or 27 for me.

Life as we know it

Knitting content:
Finished the poncho. It's drying even as we speak and I'll likely finish fringing it at Knit Happens sometime this weekend.

On to finishing Clapotis (and Lisette and Ernest).

Probably going to start another poncho, using Mission Falls Wool since I have some stashed. More stripes, of course.

Got my secret pal gift on Wednesday. Must take picture. Beautiful, beautiful Plymouth baby alpaca and a coffee mug and a candle and a little adirondack chair w/ a votive candle. Just adorable.

Non-Knitting Content:
Please, please, please make a charitable donation to your fire department if you are so inclined. My husband almost died Wednesday from a dangerously low blood sugar of 21. The Fairfax County EMS team saved his life.

Giggle

I'm getting a package! I'm getting a package! My Secret Pal has sent me an e-mail saying that she shipped via UPS and that it will arrive on October 9!

I'm getting a package! I'm getting a package!

And now that the dreaded weekend is over, I guess I need to get to the post office myself and take care of my own Secret Pal, huh?

Ended

It has ended. Hell-tember is over. Yippee!!!

Back to Lisette (yes, Kristine), and my poncho, and I've started Clapotis. It's easy knitting and will make great commuter knitting if only my foot cooperates with me. What inspired me? Shanti's Clapotis inspired me. Good job, Shanti!
